Professional Background

Valerie Burns is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) & Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC).

Valerie graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology (MS) in 2014.

Valerie's experience includes; inpatient, residential, correctional, intensive outpatient, and outpatient programs.
Valerie appreciates the commonality of the human experience and her practice has allowed her to see how adversity affects all walks of life. Her focus is to help clients receive relief, healing, and experience joy.

Additional Training

Valerie has completed additional training in the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) through the Trauma Resource Institute. She continues to train in Pia Mellody’s Post-Induction Therapy model at the Healing Our Core Issues Institute; which is a developmental and relational trauma model that addresses the impact of trauma on adult functioning. Valerie is also a licensed Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) and completed her training through University of Wisconsin-Madison and is also a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

Areas of Focus

Valerie’s therapeutic approaches include: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Post-Induction Trauma Therapy, Somatic (Body-Centered) Psychotherapy, Motivation Interviewing, and mindfulness approach in working with:

Outside of Work

Valerie enjoys travel, the outdoors, and sailing. In her free time, Valerie enjoys spending time with her dog, watching funny movies, and cooking.
