In family counseling, the counselor maintains an equal distance from individual persons in the family and focuses on the ways the family members interact; the stated as well as the unstated "rules" about how the family operates; and the various roles that members take in the family.
If you are interested in family counseling, make sure the therapist you want to work with specializes in this type of therapy.
Your therapist may start out seeing you as an individual and want other family members to join the session at some point, when appropriate.
We do not actually bill insurance companies for Couple or Family Counseling because many insurance companies do not cover these services. You can discuss this more with our intake coordinator when you call us to schedule an appointment.
If the therapist and the individual whose insurance we will be billing feel it is appropriate to have others join their session, then that can be an option to explore.
